More sunny weather welcomed the WorldSBK riders back out on track for the second day of testing at MotorLand Aragon. Track temperatures were once again rising throughout the morning and the first half of the day saw the fastest times yet. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was the first rider to get under the 1’50s barrier and leads the field into the afternoon.

Alex Lowes started the day as he means to go on and found a good set-up to go nearly three tenths faster than the rest of the field. Working on the front of the bike in the hot conditions, Lowes has two options to trial before making a decision ahead of the race weekend. Teammate and fastest rider on day one Jonathan Rea was also looking good after day two’s morning session and place third overall and despite not having anything new to test, was once again working on the perfect set-up of his ZX-10RR.

Leading the charge to Lowes and KRT was Michael van der Mark (PATA YAMAHA WorldSBK Official Team), with the Dutchman slotting nicely into second position. He’s never managed to take a podium at Aragon in WorldSBK and is keen to correct that stat, although he and his team did get a little confused at the end of the first day, giving them a new problem to find a solution to today. His teammate, Toprak Razgatlioglu, was down in seventh at midday and with new bits to test in search of more grip, he’ll hope to continue his strong work in the hotter, afternoon session.

Whilst Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC) elected not to test on day two, Leon Haslam (Team HRC) flew the flag for Honda and was once again inside the top four. The ‘Pocket Rocket’ was right on the pace yesterday and was second coming into day two. Whilst racing and testing in the round weekends, this test has allowed Haslam and his team to work methodically through a range of items, giving them more time to evaluate different things.

The ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati pairing of Scott Redding and Chaz Davies were fifth and sixth respectively. Redding spent day one working on grip and on front end, whilst day two’s agenda will see the British rookie work in the braking areas, where the Yamahas and Kawasakis seem to have an advantage. Davies continues his chassis set-up and the Welshman, an Aragon specialist, will hope to continue his work on race pace into the afternoon.

Top Independent honours went to Roman Ramos, who was 0.7s behind Toprak Razgatlioglu. Ramos was eight come the middle of the day and was using a new engine, despite having had a tricky end to day one. He pipped Maximilian Scheib (ORELAC Racing VerdNatura) who was ninth, and the Chilean rider was working on race pace in the second half of the race. The last of the ten runners was Sylvain Barrier (Brixx Performance), who seeks better front-end feel, thus giving him more confidence.
